Technicians II (Caterpillar- Operation and Repair)
Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Service Manager, this candidate with little or no supervision, will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance and/or rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without re-do. This position requires work to be completed within a time that is established as targets by client.
Essential Functions:
1. Be capable of trouble shooting mechanical problems in Caterpillar, allied products and Ag & Turf and Industrial products serviced by the service department.
2. Make warranty recommendations and prepare reports when performing warranty service jobs.
3. Perform minor welding, fabrication, plumbing and D.C. electric repairs.
4. Attends training class as directed and obtains passing grades in all before progressing to the TECHNICIAN THREE level.
5. Recondition or overhaul major components to manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Will be able to recommend action to correct the failure or problem.
7. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit and other rules, policies, and procedures.
8. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers and personnel from other HPC departments.
9. Equipment condition reporting.
10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Equipment/Tools Required:
1. Provide basic set of mechanics hand tools.
Education, Experience And Skills Required:
1. Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent
2. Must have one year’s experience in performing servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment vehicles.
3. PC skills required.
4. Must have valid Guam Driver’s license with a good driving record.
Testing Requirements:
Applicants may be required to pass a written or oral exam to be considered for this position.
Physical Demands:
1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
2. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands. Operates equipment, hand and power tools.
3. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
4. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
5. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
7. Climbing: In and out of equipment
8. Vision: Read work tickets and parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
9. Talking: Communications by radio, phone, and in person.
10. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites, hear back up warning alarms, and to receive communication by radio, phone, and in person.
11. Sitting: Sits in equipment and in vehicles.
12. Lying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment
Physical Strength:
Lifting: Up to 60lbs. daily; frequent exertion.
Environmental:
1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
2. Temp/Weather: Works in an office environment outside with variations of temperature and weather.
3. Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
