Plant Superintendent
Oversees all aspects of plant operations. Responsible for ensuring that all production, shipping, cost, quality, and safety goals are met. Reviews production schedules, determines work force requirements, and monitors production to ensure customer requirements are met. Troubleshoots production problems and takes preventive or corrective action. Recommends changes to improve quality and reduce costs. Usually requires a 4 year degree and at least 4 years managerial experience in a manufacturing environment.
Process Engineer
Determines operations required to produce products and develops processes to ensure quality, cost, and efficiency requirements are met. Troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action. Researches the purchase of equipment or upgrades to existing equipment. Usually requires a 4 year degree plus 3-5 years relevant experience, or equivalent.
Production Control Manager
Manages production schedules to fulfill current or forecasted orders for manufactured parts or products. Responsibilities include inventory control and work in process. Plans and schedules production work. Directs the actions of exempt and nonexempt production control staff. Usually reports to senior manufacturing executive. Typical incumbent has a 4 year degree and 3-6 years relevant experience including supervision, or equivalent.
Production Manager
Directs production operations and processes for a plant, division, or company. Plans and maintains production schedules. Measures progress by established standards of performance. Recognizes and solves problems affecting production including schedules, staff, quality, and order of production line. Might also manage facilities and equipment maintenance. Usually the top production management level. Typical incumbent has a 4 year degree and 6-8 years relevant experience, or equivalent.
Production Planner
Develops schedules establishing sequence and timeframe of manufacturing operations in order to meet production requirements. Reviews orders, shipping needs, plant capacity, and inventory before drawing up schedules. Set up operational series to guide production work. This is an intermediate level position requiring 1-2 years previous related experience in scheduling and production processes.
Production Supervisor
Supervises staff and operations of all departments or a specific production department or manufacturing section. Maintains production schedules. Plans and assigns work, trains employees, and has authority for hiring, termination, discipline, and performance decisions. Responsible for maintaining product quality standards. Typical incumbent has vocational training plus 3-5 years relevant experience.
Quality Assurance Engineer
Develops and implements quality assurance standards, processes, and controls. Develops methods for inspection, testing, sampling, and training. Evaluates production capabilities and recommends improvements. May assist in developing quality assurance policies and procedures. Usually requires a 4 year degree plus 2-4 years relevant experience, or equivalent.
Quality Assurance Manager
Directs quality assurance operations for a plant, division, or company. Develops and controls quality programs. Monitors Production Department’s conformance with QA standards and procedures. Conducts quality assurance training for employees engaged in materials handling or product assembly. Suggests methods for improving product quality or design, or manufacturing processes. Supervises quality assurance specialists or inspectors. Usually the top quality assurance position. Typical incumbent has a 4 year degree and 4-6 years relevant experience, or equivalent.
Quality Assurance Technician
Performs testing of manufactured parts or products to certify quality and adherence to specifications. Inspects and analyzes test models or new parts. Records results of all testing procedures. Typical incumbent has 3-6 months relevant experience.
Quality Control Supervisor
Directs quality assurance program and ensures quality problems are identified and resolved. Evaluates systems, analyzes data, evaluates products and technology and establishes quality control procedures. Oversees inspections and audits. Participates in vendor evaluation. Investigates product quality problems and recommends changes or improvements. Maintains proper documentation and reports. Usually requires an engineering or equivalent degree and 3 years quality control experience.
